1. Garlic and Honey Tea
A good solution for a sore throat – and it’s actually quite tasty!
- 1 clove of garlic crushed
- 1 lemon
- 1-2 teaspoons of honey
- Add all ingredients into a cup, pour over hot water and drink. Repeat 2-3 times a day.
2. Bone Broth And Soup
Chicken soup is the age-old remedy for illness, and we also turn to broth and soups when we don’t feel well. These can be made with ingredients from a regular grocery store. Homemade bone broth and homemade chicken soup are soothing remedies during illness and a source of protein and minerals.
3. Lemon Juice Or Ginger
fresh lemon juice and fresh ginger in water especially soothing for illnesses involving respiratory issues or sore throat.
- During illness, squeeze an entire lemon and slice a piece of ginger into hot or cold water for a soothing drink.
- Lemon juice is beneficial in other ways too and many people drink it each morning.
4. Vitamin C
Vitamin C plays an important role in your body and has many health benefits. Along with limes, oranges, grapefruits, leafy greens, and other fruits and vegetables, lemons are a good source of vitamin C.
- Adding fresh lemon juice to hot tea with honey may reduce phlegm when you’re sick.
- Drinking hot or cold lemonade may also help.
While these drinks may not clear up your cold entirely, they can help you get the vitamin C that your immune system needs. Getting enough vitamin C can relieve upper respiratory tract infections and other illnesses.
- The healing properties of mustard can help treat flu symptoms to a great extent. It is loaded with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that help with a quick recovery.
- Make a paste with one tablespoon of dry mustard, four tablespoons of flour, one egg white and a little bit of warm water. Smear the paste on a clean muslin cloth and then put another muslin cloth over it.Dab some olive oil on your chest and lay this mustard plaster on it. Remove after a few minutes and wash your chest with a clean cloth soaked in warm water. If it does not cause irritation then you can leave it on for up to 15 minutes.Mustard’s pungent odor helps unclog a stuffy nose, while the warmth improves blood circulation and eases congestion. Do this once daily or very four to six hours.
- In a large bucket, add one tablespoon of mustard powder for every quart of hot water. Soak your feet in it for several minutes until the water cools. This draws blood to your feet and improves circulation, which helps relieve congestion and speed up the healing process. Do this twice daily.
