1. Burp Your Baby
Burping will help your baby get rid of the gas that can cause colic pain and prevent indigestion. In other words, it is one of the essential home remedies for colic you need to know.
After you feed your baby, let your baby sit upright and gently rub his/her back and tummy. Keep kneading until there is a small burping sound from your baby.
2. Soothing Warm Baths
We all love warm baths and babies are no different. Give your baby a warm bath to soothe and comfort her. A few drops of lavender essential oil can help in providing her relief from the discomfort that comes with colic.
3. Warm Water
Feeding a baby milk alone can make an infant vulnerable to colic and stomach pain. We give warm milk to babies, but when we give them warm water (make it warm to the level babies can withstand) as well, this can ease stomach pain. My child’s colic decreased a lot after I started giving him warm water. It seemed to bring out gas from his stomach. Afterwards, be sure to burp the baby. Offer warm water several times a day. You can add cumin seed and give this once a day. Don’t offer give cumin water more than once a day.
You may have noticed that babies sometimes cry while passing gas. This is called stomach heat. Giving warm water several times a day can cure this problem.
4. Fennel Seeds
For colicky babies, fennel is a wonder herb. It can relieve gas and alleviate general stomach-related discomforts. Both babies and breastfeeding mothers can benefit from fennel seeds.
- Add 1 teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds to 1 cup of hot water.
- Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain it.
- A breastfeeding mother can drink this tea 2 or 3 times a day.
- Small babies can be given ½ to 1 teaspoon of this herbal tea 3 times a day.
- Follow this treatment on a daily basis.
5. Repetitive Motion
Keeping your baby in motion may be enough to soothe colic. Try going for a drive with your baby or putting them in an infant swing.
