1. Drink More Water
When you don’t drink water your body actually retains water making you look fatter.
Drinking more water prevents stomach bloating by aiding digestion, relieving constipation & gas so try to drink at least 1 liter (33.8 ounces) of water a day for a flatter stomach.
2. Limit Your Salt Intake
The more salt or sodium that you eat = the more water your body will hold onto making your stomach look fat & bloated so you got 2 options…
- You can drink more water to flush out the excess water weight caused by the excess salt in your diet and/or
- You can eat less than 2500 mg of sodium a day to prevent bloating and excess water weight gain
3. Pass On Gas-Forming Foods
Most everyone knows to steer clear of fatty foods to help avoid gas, but vegetables can also be a culprit. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and even lettuce can cause gas buildup in the intestines. To help flatten your stomach, avoid all gas-forming foods and choose foods that are easy for the body to break down and digest like bananas, citrus, yogurt, eggs and rice.
4. Sleep More
It’s not just the amount of time you spend sleeping that keeps you lean, it’s also the quality. Fat cells in your body produce a hormone called leptin-a hormone that controls hunger and feelings of satiety. This hormone is only produced during certain stages of sleep and if you skimp on those stages because you’re not resting enough, and you’ll disturb your hormonal levels, confusing your body and its signals Consequently, you’ll end up storing calories rather than burning them. So invest in a new mattress or get some new blinds and dream away
5. Improve Your Posture
Most people do not pay attention to their body mechanics which leads to poor posture, making your stomach buldge out sometimes. See below:
Poor posture can:
- Make you appear shorter
- Make you look heavier
- Cause joint stress
- Cause your stomach to jut out
- Cause misalignment
- Make you look like a humpback etc, etc.
Improve your posture by going to a chiropractor and getting an alignment done. He or she will offer some pretty good tips as to how to keep your body in check.
Remember-when you slump over, you will have a belly (usually). You can also improve your posture by stretching daily to release tight or tense muscles. Also, being aware of how you carry yourself or sit is a big bonus to improving your overall posture!
6. Don’t Forget To Snack
Snacking keeps your metabolism raging between your meals. A fireplace constantly needs wood to keep burning, right? Well, your body and metabolism are no different. you need to feed it something good, often. By good, I mean lean and protein. By not eating enough, we all know that it causes our bodies to hold onto that extra fat storage for energy later aka “survival mode.” This is why we NEVER suggest skipping a meal-EVER.
